1. MOVING LOAD ON A RAILWAY TRACK – FINITE DIFFERENCE SOLUTION

Abstract: This study investigates the response of a railway track modelled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam placed on a two parameter foundation with the inclusion of an additional elastic layer representing the subgrade. Uplift, settlement and bending moment caused by variations in velocity, damping and stiffness of subgrade have been found numerically. Changes in the subgrade stiffness are found to have relatively insignificant effect on the behavior of the beam.

2. DYNAMICALLY STUDYING THE EFFECT OF SPEED AND LOADING INCREASES ON A PLANETARY GEAR SYSTEM FOR WIND TURBINES

Abstract: Large scale wind turbines must reliably operate in the highly dynamically harsh situation due to varying wind source and grid safety under which the dynamic performance of their transmission lines is especially concerned. Thus, dynamic investigations on the gear system considering the change process of speed and torque are endeavored in order to achieve the strict performance requirements. This study uses a discrete three-dimensional (3D) dynamic model of planetary gear system (PGS) in which gear design parameters can conveniently be incorporated. The model is formulated basing on equivalent springs accounting for the effect of varying meshing stiffness of mating gear or bearing pairs.. In addition, the physical models of bearings, shafts, and housing frames are also included. 3. MODELING OF MOISTURE IN MASONRY STRUCTURES: A CASE-STUDY OF STRUCTURES IN CHANDKHEDA, AHMEDABAD

Abstract: Presence of unwanted moisture in buildings leads to decrease in the strength of structural components, poor living conditions and health problems for the residents. In India, majority of residential structures are constructed using masonry and are usually not-engineered. Further, the residents use several moisture preventing mechanisms based on available market products using their own judgment. The present study is a step towards evaluating the efficacy of such treatment strategies used by residents in a scientific manner. A survey has been conducted in the Chandkheda area of Ahmedabad, India, to evaluate the present condition of residential buildings and the state of knowledge of the residents. A computational model has been developed to simulate moisture transport in masonry walls under different ambient conditions to facilitate identification of possible sources of moisture in the structures. 4. IMPROVEMENT OF BIM-BASED BUILDING APPROVAL SYSTEM

Abstract: Using Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based design technology for various building design processes has been global and widely adopted in building construction projects. Many projects, however, are still conducted thru traditional 2D-based work methodologies, and there are some concerns when making submissions for building approvals derived from BIM-based design information. For example, when an applicant manually inputs information into a specific application form, subjectivity can become an issue. Human mistakes can be made during the input data process when there is some miscommunication between participants related a project. To address this problem, this paper proposed an improved BIM-based building approval system with a BIM-based information collection approach. 5. USING THE FUZZY-SET QUALITATIVE COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS (FSQCA) METHOD TO ANALYZE THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE HOUSING MARKET: A CASE STUDY OF 10 ASIAN COUNTRIES

Abstract: A house is an essential human factor. A housing market is formed by the demand and supply of houses. A global housing market fluctuates by each country's policies and situations. Because of the various social, cultural and economic aspects affecting complexity, it is difficult to analyze the factors affecting the housing market. Consequently, in this paper, we analyze several housing market factors using the fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) method. Variables of importance were found to include: the aging population, purchasing power, population growth, house prices, and youth unemployment. In this paper, we determine the issues that need to be addressed to revitalize the housing market the entire world; the results can be used to assist in the development of national policy.

6. ADVANCED APPROACH TO MOMENT CAPACITY ASSEMENT OF FRP REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURAL MEMBER BOND-SLIP RELATION IN FRP REINFORCED CONCRETE AND ITS LINK TO MEMBER CURVATURE

Abstract: The response of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) reinforced concrete beam has been the topic of previous research, because of use of modern FRP composite materials in the building industry as concrete reinforcement. The behavior of FRP reinforced member is different from the one reinforced with regular steel reinforcement. This difference is caused by order of magnitude different moduli of elasticity of the respective materials and results in the fact that conventional design methods used for years in the field of reinforced concrete structures give poor results if used with FRP reinforced structural members. Results of conventional methods tend to overestimate load capacity of the member and underestimate deformations – both resulting in unsafe predictions. 7. A METHODOLOGY FOR A NEW QUALIFIED NUMERICAL MODEL OF A 2-STROKE DIESEL ENGINE DESIGN

Abstract: This paper presents a methodology to determine and to formalize all the variables involved in a CFD model of a 2-stroke diesel engine. The formalization includes the establishing of the values domain and the research of relations between the variables. The formalization can be followed by a reduction of the variables and the ranges of values. The methodology concludes on the qualification of the model. The methodology has to be used before solving the model. It helps not to forget any variable and to well understand the characteristics of the final model. It also provides the validity domain of the model and the limits of its exploitation. The methodology is applies to the 2-stroke Diesel engines to optimize its design and characterize the aerodynamics inside the combustion chamber.

8. EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON STRENGTH AND DURABILITY PROPERTIES OF FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE

Abstract: In this paper, the strength of concrete cubes and cylinders cast using M40 grade concrete and reinforced with recron3s, polypropylene fibers and mineral admixtures have been presented. Also, hybrid fibers with recron3s and polypropylene have been used in concrete matrix to study its impact on strength and durability properties. The recron3s, polypropylene and hybrid [polypropylene and recron3s] fibers of various proportions i.e., 1% of recron3s fiber, 1% of polypropylene fiber (Boasee fiber) and 1% of hybrid fibers each of 0.5% by volume of cement with admixtures of 1% by weight of cement have been used in concrete mixes. The result obtained has been analyzed and compared with the control specimen (0% fiber). It clearly shows the compressive strength values for M40 grade without and with fibers.

9. HARVESTING OF ENERGY AT HIGH ALTITUDE BY ALOFT WIND TURBINE

Abstract: presently Bangalore is facing problem w r t power shortage, reason is hydropower plant dams are not getting sufficient rain fall in the monsoon. But in the outskirts ceaseless wind with high velocity at altitude of 800m to 900m from the mean earth surface. High altitude wind is powerful and that has another important advantage, it is stable and constant. This is true practically everywhere. This paper suggests a revolutionary innovation which produces a dramatic increase in power per unit and is independent of prevailing weather and at a lower cost per unit of energy extracted. The main innovation consists of large free-flying air rotors along with electrical generator positioned at high altitude 1000m, locked with help of cable. Wind speed varies from 11.4 to 15m/s estimated maximum output power is 63MW

Worn surfaces were studied with help of SEM images. 11. NON-ASSOCIATED CONSTITUTIVE LAW OF SOILS AND ITS SIMULATION BASED ON THE BI-POTENTIAL THEORY

Abstract: This paper is devoted to study the non-associated constitutive law of soil materials and to construct a bi-potential for the classical Drucker-Prager (D-P) plastic model. It can be proved that the bi-potential not only satisfies the constitutive relationship of the D-P model, but also conforms to the non-associated flow rule. We present the relevant algorithms for the integration of soil constitutive equations. Two simple numerical examples illustrate the rationality of the bi-potential theory and the feasibility of its algorithm. 12. DETERMINATION OF EXCESSIVE ENERGY USE BUILDINGS

Abstract: Interest in energy saving is increasing. At the same time, interest particular is growing for energy efficiency in buildings. As such, building energy performance information is needed to determine which buildings require energy-efficiency retrofits. Currently, obtaining building energy-performance information is costly and agreed-upon standards are lacking. To further promote work in this area, we analyzed building energy consumption and suggested methods to determine excessive energy use in buildings.

13. IMPACT TESTING OF CONCRETE THE MEASUREMENT DEVICE

Abstract: Testing of ultra high performance fiber reinforced concrete under impact loading is described in this paper. In addition a design process of a novel impact measurement device is presented in this work. There are several ways how to test impact resistance of concrete and various groups throughout the world developed different testing devices. Most of such devices are based on a principle of a falling weight on the concrete specimen. This work however presents an impact machine that is based on a pendulum principle. Such test configuration has several advantages, such as elimination of double hits, easy access to the sample and high degree of device modulability. In addition, the placement of sensors and high speed camera is relatively easy. In this experimental work concrete beams were tested in the testing device, but the test setup can be rearranged to test slabs or joins.
