Authors: ASIT MOHANTY , NAND KISHOR , PRAKASH K. RAY , SOUMYA R. MOHANTY

Abstract: This paper presents fuzzy tuned-PI controller to minimize the frequency deviations in a hybrid distributed generation system consisting of wind-thermal along with storage system flywheel energy storage system (FESS) and ultracapacitors. The frequency deviation in the hybrid system in the presence of the controllers like conventional-PI and fuzzy-PI is compared under the presence of FESS/UC under different disturbance scenarios. Step as well as random variation in wind speed and load demand are considered as disturbance input to the above hybrid system. In addition to the graphical results, comparison in terms of the performance indices, settling time, peak overshoot, integral square error (ISE) is also presented. Both graphical and quantitative results clearly show the robustness and better performance of fuzzy based PI controller as compared to the conventional PI for minimization of frequency deviation in hybrid power system

2. IMPLEMENTATION OF LINEAR QUADRATIC REGULATOR FOR CSTR TANK

Authors: DEEP MUKHERJEE , DIBYENDU BANERJEE , FARUK BIN POYEN , SANTU GUIN

Abstract: In this article, an optimal controller design for a continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) is proposed. CSTR is widely used in chemical processes as a major processing unit. Firstly, we started with extracting a linearized model for CSTR. This model is used as the basis point for the controller design. To control, we designed a Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller in order to suppress the effects of disturbances in the inflow liquid. Our main aim is to maintain the concentration and volume of liquid in the CSTR to the given set point. The expectations agree with the simulation results.

3. SUBVERSION(R): EMPIRICAL DESIGN METHODOLOGY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF INTEGRATED CIRCUIT DESIGN

Authors: ACHIM GRAUPNER , HOLGER SCHMIDT , RADOSLAV PRAHOV

Abstract: An aspect of primary significance in integrated circuit (IC) design is configuration management of design data, i.e., the task of keeping a project comprising a multiplicity of revisions well organized. Apache’s Subversion(r) is a software tool that can facilitate this task. It manages revisions of documentation, source code, and a wide variety of files, and it automates storing and retrieving revisions. Unfortunately, Subversion(r) provides insufficient support for IC projects consisting of large numbers of managed items. We address this problem by introducing, discussing, and demonstrating several approaches that improve the performance of Subversion(r) when handling a vast amount of files and directories. Our approaches are division of the working copy into smaller pieces with a decent granularity, conversion of the working copy into a single tarball file, and implementation of a referred central working copy. Each method is incorporated into the configuration management flow throug

5. COMPARISON OF LOCAL BINARY PATTERN AND LOCAL TERNARY PATTERN FOR CLASSIFICATION OF ARTHRITIS IN KNEE X-RAY IMAGES USING EUCLIDEAN DISTANCE METHOD

Authors: M.SUBRAMONIAM , V.RAJIN

Abstract: Arthritis is the most common inflammation in bone-joints and this progressive disease often leads to early disability and joint deformities. By the early diagnosis and treatment of the Arthritis, the damage to the joins can be reduced. A number of therapeutic approaches are now widely available for the diagnosis of this disease. Imaging of the affected joints plays a vital role in the diagnosis. In this paper, a novel classification system for the classification of OA in knee x-ray images based on Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Local ternary pattern(LTP) is presented. The classification is achieved by extracting the histograms of LBP and LTP of the knee x-ray image. Then classifier system based on K Nearest Neighbor (KNN) is constructed. This system classifies the knee x-ray images into normal or abnormal, and the abnormal severity into medium or worst cases. 50 knee x-ray images are used to evaluate the proposed system. The classification rate achieved is very satisfied.

Authors: VINOD THAKUR

Abstract: Age of Hydro Electric Plants in India is considered to be about 25 to 30 years. After this age, it is necessary that hydro electric plant should be refurbished, so that we can increase its Generation and efficiency. With the age some parts of the Electric plants are not giving full efficiency due to bear and tear. Generation capacity of the Hydro Electric Plant can be increased by replacement of some of crucial parts and by reducing losses. It is also important to note here that the increasing demand of electric power can be achieved by establishing new Electric Power Plants or by upgrading the old electric Power Plants. Some of the electric plants in India and Hydro Electric Power Plants in Himachal Pradesh particularly are crossing their maximum age limit and it is very important that such Electric Generation Plants should be upgraded. Modernization of electric plants is also a very important aspect to increase the generation capacity of the old power plants. With the passage of time

11. ROBUST LOAD FREQUENCY CONTROL OF TWO-AREA POWER SYSTEM ALONG WITH COORDINATED OPERATION OF TCPS-SMES

Authors: NAND KISHOR , PRAKASH K. RAY , SOUMYA R. MOHANTY

Abstract: This paper presented a design of a decentralized robust proportional-integral-derivative controller based on Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) approach for two-area interconnected power system with multi-unit comprising of non-reheat and reheat steam turbine in each control area along with coordinated operation of Thyristor Controlled Phase Shifter (TCPS) and Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) for load frequency control (LFC). In this work PID control problem is reduced to a static output feedback control synthesis through H∞ control approach, and then design two controllers one is H∞ controller and second is iterative proportional-integral-derivative (IPIDH∞) controller based on LMI approach. The simulation results show that the IPIDH∞ is superior to robust H∞ controller. The robustness of both controllers is also tested with different load scenarios and also with parameters variations.

12. PREDICTING HADOOP PARAMETERS

Authors: QIN LIU , ZHU HONGMING , ZIAD BENSLIMANE

Abstract: The interest in analyzing the growing amounts of data has encouraged the deployment of large scale parallel computing frameworks such as Hadoop. In other words, data analytic is the main reason behind the success of distributed systems; this is due to the fact that data might not fit on a single disk, and that processing can be very time consuming so analyzing the input in parallel is very useful. Hadoop relies on the MapReduce programming paradigm to distribute work among the machines; so a good balance of load will eventually influence the execution time of those kinds of applications. This paper introduces a technique to predict some configuration parameters from the application\'s CPU utilization in order to optimize Hadoop.

Authors: S.K.DARUN

Abstract: The present technologies provide only assistance in a car for controlling the relative speed and distance between two vehicles in the same lane and permit to drive at a constant given speed in a Highway free of traffic and to maintain a constant distance with the vehicle ahead but not collision avoidance But the proposed system provides enhancements in the present adaptive cruise control system, which in addition to collision detection provides a comprehensive solution to avoid collision without the driver’s intervention. Our system with the help of sensors constantly monitors the lane in which it is traveling. The system after detecting a moving vehicle in front (which moves slower than the set cruise speed of our car) will try to switch to the adjacent lane, if unoccupied. This judgment (of whether a lane is occupied or not) is done with the help of proximity sensors attached on either side of the vehicle. In the new lane, the car will accelerate to the set cruise speed and after ove

Authors: ALOK KOLE , KRUTIKA SETHIA , PARTHA PRATIM BHATTACHARYA

Abstract: In this paper, the state of the art Quality of Service(QoS) support in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is analyzed.Unlike traditional end-to-end multimedia applications, many non-end- to-end mission critical applications visualized for WSN have brought forward new QoS requirements. As an attempt in this direction, an Adaptive Fuzzy logic control based QoS management scheme (AFLC- QM) scheme for WSN’s with constrained resources and dynamic environment is proposed. This scheme deals with the impact of unpredictable changes in traffic load on the QoS of WSN’s. Coverage, lifetime, nodedensity and energy cost are chosen as input parameters. A bell shaped membership function is chosen to analyze the effect of these input parameters on the QoS of the system as it provides low rise and fall time. Then a Fuzzy Logic Rule Base (FLRB) is applied to take the desired decision to improve the QoS. The system results are studied and compared using MATLAB. It gives satisfactory performance and can be eas

Authors: ASIT MOHANTY , NAND KISHOR , PRAKASH K. RAY , SOUMYA R. MOHANTY

Abstract: Self tuned Fuzzy logic based PID controller is developed in this paper to regulate the reactive power of a decentralized wind-diesel hybrid power system under different disturbance conditions. The study incorporating small signal analysis has been taken. The linearized model of wind, diesel is used where IEEE Excitation system (type-1) with synchronous generator is taken into account. Due to the abrupt load changes and sporadic nature of wind, reactive power and voltage stability problem occur. For the above problem, a Auto tuned Fuzzy Logic PID (STFLPID) controller is designed, which automatically tunes the coefficients of PID controller (KP and Ki). From Simulation it shows that the proposed controller attains the steady state value with less settling time and overshoot for a wide and unpredicted load changes and thereby proves it’s superiority.

Authors: ISKANDAR PETRA , LIYANAGE C DE SILVA , WONG TECK SION

Abstract: In this paper we present the details of a device we have developed which can automatically monitor the movements of people in a facility and control the lighting and air conditioning to minimize the wastage at the same time displaying the energy consumption details in any type of smart phone device. Not only it can display the status of the facility at a given time but also it can be operated manually to switch off some unwanted devices from anywhere in the world. It may be a device that a frequent traveler may like to have installed in his house since he can randomly on/off lighting in his house while he is away to mimic that there are people in the house. Some preliminary calculations shows that using this concept a typical house can save up to 30% of electricity whereby reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted to the environment. This percentage can be even more for a facility with many occupants with many unoccupied rooms. We are living in a world full of electronic appliances
