1. DYANAMICS OF GLOBALIZATION AND DEVELOPING ECONOMIES ISSSUES AND CHALLENGES

Authors: SHRADDHA SINGH , V. S. ADIGAL

Abstract: The term globalization refers to a historical process of integration of economies throughout the world enabled through movement of capital, labour and technology (knowledge) across international borders. Globalization is a wider term and encompasses social, cultural, religious as well as economic aspect. However, it is only ‘economic globalization’ that is widely referred to unless stated otherwise. Also, it is called a historical process as it has evolved over centuries as a direct result of technological progress and human ingenuity. In fact, the earliest though there’s no agreed starting point, mention of the whole world as ‘one’ came from an Indian saint who coined the phase ‘Vasudheva Kutumbhkam’ thousand years ago. Moreover, the earliest civilizations including the Roman, Egyptian and Chinese and the Mohanjodaro and Harappa resembled the modern day – free trade economists. In fact, they owed most of their prosperity and flourishing trade to free trade

2. A FACTOR ANALYSIS OF WASTE DISCARDING AND SEPARATING BEHAVIOR OF THAI PREMIERE LEAGUE SPECTATORS

Authors: KORBTIP ATCHARIYASOPON

Abstract: Solid waste is unavoidably generated by many kinds of human activity (Moeller, 2005). Sport is one of the activities that create scores of waste. The purpose of this study is to examine the significant factors of waste discarding and separating behavior of Thailand Premiere League (TPL) spectators in three selected stadiums (i.e., individual factors (IF), knowledge of waste separation (KS), awareness of impact from waste generation (AG), waste reducing participation (WP) and some categories of waste). In addition, the relationship between factors and behavior is scrutinized. Structural equation modeling (SEM) and Path Analysis are used to analyze the responses of 1,155 spectators at selected study areas using AMOS 20 Software package against the various factors of spectators’ behavior. The results of the analyses reveal the following: 1) A significant positive relationship between waste discarding behavior and age (IF) and some categories of waste generated in the stadium, for instance

3. WIN-WIN GROWTH OF LARGE COMPANIES AND SMALL- AND MEDIUM-SIZED FIRMS (LCSMF) THROUGH PLATFORM STRATEGY

Authors: HEE-YOUNG KIM , JUN-SEOK HEO , MIN-JAE KIM

Abstract: This study presents specific measures for a platform strategy for LCSMF win-win growth. To this end, literature was examined to derive the platform strategy process, and cases of Samsung Electronics and CJ Jeiljedang were analyzed. The analysis revealed that while platform opening time varied according to industrial characteristics, it was important to construct open platforms based on trust, and that the constructed platform created new values when it was maintained and managed through participants’ positive exchange and competition. This suggests that a platform strategy enables win-win growth.

4. AN EXPLORATORY STUDY ON COOPERATION BETWEEN LARGE ENTERPRISES AND SMES, COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AND BUSINESS ECOSYSTEM HEALTH FOCUSED ON SAMSUNG ELECTRONIC ’ S BUSINESS ECOSYSTEM

Authors: JAE-MIN SHIN , JANG-WOO LEE , MIN-JAE KIM

Abstract: This study explores the cooperation between large enterprises and SMEs, competitive advantage, and business ecosystem health. The cooperative relationship between large enterprises and SMEs is characterized by their cooperative density and cooperative quality. Competitive advantage is composed of cost advantage and differentiation advantage by positioning and resources. To achieve the purpose of this research, data were collected from 101 vendor companies with S-electronics and analyzed with the theoretical study using the structural equation model. The results of this research areas follow. First, the cooperative density was determined to gauge its positive effect on the cost advantage, and the cooperative quality was revealed to assess its positive effect on the differentiation advantage. Second, the cost advantage was surfaced to evaluate its positive effect on the productivity, and the differentiation advantage was found to discover its positive effect on the robustness.

5. CONSUMER PERCEPTION OF SWEET POTATO-BASED FOODS PRODUCT INNOVATION IN PROVINCE OF YOGYAKARTA

Authors: DYNA HERLINA S , SABTYA SUKMA ARWACHYNTIA

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to find the factors that influence consumer perceptions of sweet potato-based foods product innovation in Province of Yogyakarta. The research method used was survey. The method of data analysis used was EFA (Exploratory Factor Analysis). Based on the review of previous literature, it was found five factors that affect consumers in consuming innovative foods, these factors were novelty and change, variety, processing and technology, origin and ethnicity and convenience. Based on these factors, a set of questionnaires was formulated. Using quota sampling, the questionnaire was divided and distributed to respondents in 3 districts, namely Bantul, Sleman, and Yogyakarta’s city. The survey was conducted twice, first survey involved 318 respondents with 62 indicator questions. The first survey was rotated 6 times. It formed 12 factors, consist of 30 indicators that considered to affect consumer perceptions of sweet potato-based foods product innovation. The KMO

6. DOES THE EXPECTATION OF HAVING TO LOOK AFTER PARENTS IN THE FUTURE AFFECT THE QUALITY OF CHILDREN?

Authors: C.R. MCKENZIE , KEI SAKATA

Abstract: This paper investigates whether the expectation of future care for aging parents affects the quality of children. When the quality of children is measured using the level of their education, it is found that for the third child, especially if the child is male, an increase in this expectation of a future burden leads to a reduction in the level education investment for this child.

7. CONSUMPTION POVERTY IN A TIME OF POST CONFLICT: FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH POVERTY IN EASTERN PROVINCE

Authors: JEYAPRABA SURESH

Abstract: Eastern Province appears to have the highest level of poverty in the latest statistics, though the economy of the region has the potential to grow and diversify. The dreadful conflict contributed to loss of life, displacement, migration of people, damage to physical resources and infrastructure, disruption of services and loss of livelihoods. With the end of civil war in East, the government as well as the non-government organizations have extended their rehabilitation and reconstruction work to this area. Poverty reduction is now at the core of development policy making and a key commitment of donor agencies. It is extremely important in the current period to identify what characteristics of the poor are likely to hamper the poverty alleviation strategies and to address these in order to maximize the benefits of current policy. Hence, this study tries to identify the factors associated with the level of poverty. This paper uses household income and expenditure survey data during the p

8. DETERMINANTS OF PROFITABILITY OF CHINA’S DOMESTICALLY LISTED COMMERCIAL BANKS: PANEL EVIDENCE FOR THE PERIOD BETWEEN 2007-2012

Authors: CHAO ZHOU , THONGDEE KIJBOONCHOO

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore the determinants of 16 China domestically listed commercial banks' profitability over period 2007-2012. This research selects the net interest margin, profit margin and Tobin's q as proxies of the bank profitability, which are measured by three categories: internal determinants, industry-specific determinants and macroeconomic determinants. Panel data model was used to analyze how the determinants affecting the bank's profitability and some recommendations of improving the bank's profitability are provided.

9. A MANUFACTURER-BUYERS INTEGRATED INVENTORY MODEL WITH STOCHASTIC LEAD TIMES OF DELIVERING EQUAL- SIZED BATCHES OF A LOT

Authors: M. A. HOQUE

Abstract: The single manufacturer multi-buyer integrated inventory supply chain problem with deterministic lead time of delivering batches (sub-lot) of a lot has received a considerable attention of researchers. Because of the influences of various factors, usually deviation in the times of setting up of a machine, inspection, loading, transportation, unloading etc. occurs, which in turn leads to the deviation in the lead time of delivering batches of a lot. However, the single-manufacturer multi-buyer problem with stochastic lead time has received no attention of researchers. To fill up this gap, here we develop a generalized single-manufacturer multi-buyer integrated inventory supply chain model with stochastic lead time of delivering equal-sized batches of a lot. Then an optimal solution technique to the model is developed. Thereafter, the solution method is illustrated with numerical examples, and various numerical problems are solved to show the potential significance of this solution metho

10. GLOBALISATION AND TRADE: THE MEANS TO WHAT END?

Authors: MARYAM SHADMAN PAJOUH , MERVYN MARTIN

Abstract: Any discussion on the subject of globalisation and trade will inevitably involve consideration of a possible method of ensuring that the international trading system gets the most out of the globalisation. Such a scenario will entail discussing international trade activity against the backdrop of globalisation, and more importantly attaining the objective/s of such activity. This paper will commence by discussing the phenomenon called globalisation, to understand what it is and what if any are the potential benefits from it. An analysis into whether globalisation is delivering what it is expected to, and if not why is it not able to, will be undertaken. There are strong arguments that globalisation, especially in the context of international trade need regulation for it to be a positive element. The result of this analysis will then lead to a consideration of international trade theories and philosophies to ascertain the objectives of engaging in international trade activity. The outco
