1. THE MECHANICS OF THE CONTINUOUS ROTARY EXTRUSION PROCESS INVESTIGATED BY FEM-ANALYSIS

Authors: HENRY VALBERG , NIJENTHAN RAJENDRAN , WOJCIECH Z. MISIOLEK

Abstract: The continuous rotary extrusion process is a complex metal forming operation, and there is still lack of knowledge regarding the mechanics of the process. Because of this, we decided to use FEM-modelling to characterize and study the thermo-mechanical conditions in the process. Emphasize in our work is on the nature of metal flow and the thermal conditions in the early stages of the process, when the feed-rod material fills up the die cavity and forms the plastic zone. In addition, we investigated when steady state conditions are reached, with respect to the metal flow and the temperature field in the process.

Abstract: One of the main passenger transportations in Sri Lanka is the bus. Most of these busses used for the passenger transportation do not have proper vibration dampers and passengers who travel in them are subjected to severe vibration levels as most of the time they are travelling standing up rather than sitting down on comfortable seats. Sever vibration levels produced by the engines of the busses and the poor road conditions in Sri Lanka are directly transfer to the passengers due to poor vibration damping of the busses. This paper discusses the vibration levels that the passengers travelling in Sri Lankan busses encounter by using accelerometers and the mechanical modelling of the passenger whole body vibrations. A new model is put forward to account for the nonlinear effects. Also the paper compares the passenger vibration levels with the international standards for safer passenger vibration levels (ISO2631). First part of the paper discusses the power spectral densities of the vibrati

3. TEMPERATURE CONTROL OF A REGASIFICATION SYSTEM FOR LNG-FUELLED MARINE ENGINES

Authors: GANG-GYOO JIN , GUN-BAEK SO

Abstract: This paper presents a nonlinear PID (NPID) controller which controls the glycol temperature of a regasification system for LNG-fuelled engines. The NPID controller has a parallel structure of linear PD action and nonlinear I action. A nonlinear function is employed to scale the error as input of the integral and implemented as a Takagi- Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The controller parameters are optimally tuned by assuming that it is operated in both warming-up and running modes, and the parameters are switched according to the operation mode. Furthermore, the stability problem of the overall system is verified based on the circle criterion. A set of simulation works is carried out to validate the efficiency of the proposed controller.

4. STEAM CONSUMPTION ANALYSIS ON THE VENTING PROCESS IN DIRECT STEAM RETORT

Authors: SASITHORN PAYAKTHONG , TEERACHART PORNPIBUL

Abstract: Presently, the steam consumption usage of the retort was unable to be found, since the equipment used in sterilization were those that used steam as a medium to provide heat. When high temperature steam is needed, the pressure of the steam becomes high as well. Thus, when sterilizing, pressure must also be maintained in addition to temperature, since high pressures can result in damage to the product, and temperatures can rise above the standard. Thus, some of the steam must be released throughout the process, and in the first parts of the sterilization, air must also be vented from the machine by opening the vent pipe. Since the inside of the retort contains steam and air mixed together, some steam is also released after the vent pipe has been opened. Thus, one can’t measure the true amount of steam, resulting in the production of steam of excess pressure and amount than needed to support the steam needed for sterilization. This study will study the process of sterilization of canne

5. THERMAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF THERMOELECTRIC MODULE

Authors: KRAWEE TREEAMNUK , PATCHARA WONGPAISARNKIT , TAWARAT TREEAMNUK

Abstract: This article ascribes about the thermoelectric module that conveniently creates the difference temperature between the both of its sides by supplying the electricity. The study aims to test the performance of the heat generating and heat exchanging capability of the thermoelectric module model TEC-12710 for the possibility evaluation when it will be modified in the agricultural products drying system. The experiment apparatus was prepared by install the air fin heat exchangers on the 16 cm2 of both sides of the thermoelectric module and then, enforced the air flow through the system and measured the inlet-outlet of air properties. The results found that the supplying of 16 V, 8.5 A DC electricity to the module gains the air temperature from 30°C 68%RH to 52.3°C 26.8%RH on the hot side of the module. The system consumes a 40 W of power and gives the highest moisture extraction rate (MER) at 0.016 kgwater/h on the cold side of module by supplying of 6 V 3.5 A and it have the coefficien

6. DEVELOPMENT OF INFRARED RADIAL RADIATION DRYER FOR PADDY

Authors: KRAWEE TREEAMNUK , TAWARAT TREEAMNUK

Abstract: An infrared radial radiation heating system was developed for drying paddy. A cylindrical drying chamber was installed 1,200 W of infrared heater at center for radial radiation heating. Paddy drying behavior and performance of the paddy dryer in terms of drying rate (DR), specific energy consumption (SEC) and quality of paddy i.e. head rice yield (HRY) and whiteness index (WI) were evaluated by drying 15 kg of paddy with initial moisture content of 23-26% (w.b.) by using the drying conditions of 80°C of drying temperature, 334.2 m3/min of air flow rate and 0.837, 1.228 and 1.875 kg/min of thin layer paddy flow rate. The results indicated that the drying rate and head rice yield were increased when increase the flow rate of thin layer paddy but in contrast of SEC and whiteness index.
