2. AN ITERATIVE MECAHNISM FOR CAPACITY TRANSFER AMONG M/M/1 QUEUEING SYSTEMS WITH PRIVATE INFORMATION

Authors: XIAOQIANG CAI , YINLIAN ZENG

Abstract: We study mechanism design problem for capacity transfer among M/M/1 queueing systems with private information. We propose an iterative mechanism, which is shown to simultaneously satisfy strategy-proofness, budget balance, individual rationality, and convergence. Finally, we conduct numerical studies to evaluate the performance of the proposed mechanism.

3. WASTA IN THE ARAB WORLD IMPLICATIONS ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SMES

Authors: NASSER ALI ALYAHYAEI

Abstract: Wasta was originally a mediation mechanism in pre-colonial Arab societies which evolved into an intercessory tool to gain favourable access to positions and resources. It is both censured and abetted in present-day Middle Eastern countries like Oman where members struggle to balance Western standards of meritocracy and fair competition with the time-honoured values of solidarity, allegiance and mutual responsibility. Borne of a collectivist society where consultation and reciprocity are prized, the practice poses a challenge to the individualistic ideals of entrepreneurship which drive SMEs, often leading to the subordination of the independent entrepreneurial spirit to the imperatives of family and close relations. The remedy lies not in a drastic alteration of an institutionalized practice but in modifying wasta in such a way that entrepreneurial traits like competitiveness and efficiency are fostered, while maintaining the cultural factors that contribute to the cohesiveness of Arab

4. EFFECTS OF RISK MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON PROJECT SUCCESS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY OF PAKISTAN

Authors: IRAM TAHIR , OWAIS TAHIR , SOBIA SHUJAAT

Abstract: This independent study has been conducted to analyse and establish whether any relationship exists between effective risk management practices and project success in the construction industry of Pakistan. The industry under question is marred with inefficiencies both in the public as well as private sector, and success rate of projects are very low. The study aims to investigate, through the use of questionnaires, whether a relationship between effective risk management and improved project success exists., and whether the organisations that undertake risk management processes are able to achieve a better project success rate and, in the process, establish a link between the two. Literature suggests that an effective risk management system comprises of a four-step process which includes risk identification, risk assessment, risk response and overall control of risk. Further study of the literature suggests that the first three elements help enforce and reaffirm the fourth element. Henc

5. PROACTIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS KNOWLEDGE SHARING BEHAVIOR AT WORKPLACE IN THE ARAB WORLD

Authors: MOHAMMED AL HAZAIZI

Abstract: Knowledge is considered an important source of establishing and maintaining competitive advantages. In the knowledge-based economy, knowledge sharing is increasingly viewed as critical to organizational effectiveness. Knowledge sharing has gained importance in organizations seeking to gain a competitive edge. Specifically, knowledge sharing, and the resulting knowledge creation are crucial for organizations to gain and sustain competitiveness. However, knowledge sharing is challenging in organizations for two reasons: First, individuals tacit knowledge, by its very nature, is difficult to transfer. Second, knowledge sharing is typically voluntary. Indeed, effective knowledge sharing is challenging because individuals cannot be compelled to do it. Organizations can manage knowledge resources more effectively only if individuals are willing to share their knowledge with colleagues. To facilitate knowledge sharing among individuals and across organizations, it is essential to understand t

6. CREDIT UNIONS: ANALYSIS OF THE DETERMINANT FACTOR OF THE CREDIT RISK

Authors: I. A. COELHO SILVA , M. A. L. DE FREITAS , R. N. RODRIGUES

Abstract: The credit unions are institutions that make financial resources feasible to their members assuring them access to the tools of the financial market. In Brazil in 2017, there were 9.6 million members. Another relevant element has been the growth of the total assets, credit portfolio and deposits. This study has the goal to investigate the determinant factors of the credit risk of the Brazilian credit unions through the application of data model in an unbalanced scoreboard stimated by the analysis of the Ordinaty Least Squares. The sample corresponded to 799 Brazilian credit unions in the quarters between 06/2014 and 09/2018. As a result of the research the Efficiency in Cost Management, Total Assets, GPD and ROE variables presented statistical relevance as factors of the credit risk.

7. BIOETHICS ISSUES IN ARAB SOCIETY

Authors: ABDUL JALEEL KADHIM ALWALI

Abstract: Recent bioethical issues that have emerged in the field of medicine include, but are not limited to, eugenics (artificial insemination), palliative care (end of life care), euthanasia (medical resuscitation), abortion, and the development of enhanced human body parts. These bioethical issues have raised ethical questions related to the use of modern technology and how it may affect the future of society. These questions consider issues such as: what is the identity of future children? Have human beings become a commodity exchanged by those who have the ability to own them? What is the meaning of justice in medical treatment? How can physicians and nurses perform humanitarian work? Discussions of these questions should begin by determining their relationships with typical social and cultural values in society, such as life and death, marriage, family, fatherhood, motherhood, relatives, and next-of-kin. This paper presents a review of the important Arabic literature that has been written
