1. PRACTICAL FREE-FORM SEARCH OVER RELATIONAL DATABASES

Authors: MOHAMMAD HASSAN

Abstract: This paper presents a tool that enables non-technical end-users to use free-form queries in exploring relational databases with simple and direct technique, in a fashion similar to using search engines to search text files on the web. This allows web designers and database developers specially in small business sectors to publish their databases for web browsers exploring in practical way. We assume that each database to be processed in our approach is ‘about’ a particular type of object, where only certain tables and certain attributes will be the ‘public’ ones and likely to be searchable on the web. The proposed approach can be used for both Internet and Intranet application areas. Our technique has been borrowed from the similar techniques used for information retrieval (IR), mainly for text and document databases; it supports working smoothly with the structured information stored in relational databases.

Keywords: Relational Databases, information retrieval, keyword-based search.

2. A NOVEL APPROACH TO SENTENCE EXTRACTION USING FONT FEATURES

Authors: B. SAHOO , M. SWAIN , R.C. BALABANTARAY

Abstract: As information overload grows day by day, systems that can automatically summarize documents becomes increasingly studied and used. In this paper we have given a novel statistical approach for text summarization of a single source document by sentence extraction using font features. We rank each sentence in the document by assigning a weight value to each word of the sentence and a boost factor is also added to those terms which appear in bold, italic or underlined or any combination of these features. In this paper we improved our result in comparison to our previous paper: [14]

3. NOVEL PSEUDORANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR SCHEME EMPLOYING 3-DIMENSIONAL CELLULAR AUTOMATA

Authors: AWAIS AHMAD , JAMIL AHMAD , MURAD KHAN , SYED ISMAIL SHAH

Abstract: This research proposes a novel three dimensionalcellular automata (3-D CA) scheme for pseudo random number generationwhich is highly secure than the two dimensional cellular automata (2-D CA). It removes security and boundary problems with the 2-D CA. The use of 1-D CA was very common in late 80s which was then improved with 2-D CA. Research literature shows that 2-D CA is suffering from security and boundary problems. The proposed scheme is implemented usingC++ to test its performance against others similar systems using DIHARD and ENT standard test suites. Simulations are performed on 200 sets for both DIHARD and ENT. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme performs better than that of the older versionespecially in termsof security and boundary. In DIEHARD and ENT test the proposed scheme produces better success rate than older versions.

Keywords: Pseudorandom number generation, cellular automata, DIEHARD, ENT.

5. FLASH ON A SET TOP BOX TO ENHANCE INTERACTIVITY

Authors: G VARAPRASAD , LAKSHMIKANTHA H.A , VINOD KUMAR N

Abstract: Before pay systems and digital television, all that consumers needed to watch television was a standard television set that they could buy anywhere. In the 1980s this simple model began to change. The advent of cable and satellite television required consumers to connect their TVs to an additional device like a set top box to receive the signals. This paper discusses about the usage of flash in the application layer of the set top box architecture. Adobe flash is bandwidth friendly vector animation originally designed to create animation for web. It is extended and incorporated into a set top box to enhance the interactivity by improving the look and feel of the user interface. The flash user interface is developed with object oriented script language called action script

Keywords: Settop box, adobe flash, user interface, called action script.

6. QUALITY OF SERVICE: MAC PROTOCOL IN IEEE 802.11 WLAN

Authors: PARMINDER KAUR , SINGARA SINGH

Abstract: The most popular and widely used Wireless LAN standard all over the world today is IEEE 802.11. It is likely to play a major role in the next generation wireless communication networks. IEEE 802.11 WLANs has two basic co-ordination functions at MAC layer: DCF (Distributed Coordination function) and PCF (Point Coordination Function). DCF is the basic access function for asynchronous data services and is based on carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) with a binary slotted exponential contention (back off) algorithm .PCF uses a centralized polling method requiring a node to play the role of a point coordinator (PC) developed for time bounded services. Providing QoS support in IEEE 802.11 is challenging task, as QoS solutions for wired networks cannot be applied out-of-the-box for wireless mobile ad hoc networks, due to specifics of radio networking and mobility. QoS problem has two major perspectives: (1)network perspective (2) application/user perspective. Netw
