1. EXPRESSION LEVEL OF PDX1 GENE IN GARLIC BULBS

Authors: AHMET IPEK , MERYEM IPEK

Abstract: Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is a water-soluble vitamin that living organisms requires it for several enzymatic reactions. It plays role as a co-factor of many enzymes in lipid glucose, and amino acid metabolism. The metabolically active form of vitamin B6 is pyridoxal 5-phosphate. PDX1 (pyridoxal phosphate synthase protein) is the enzyme involving in vitamin B6 biosynthesis. Garlic bulbs are important dietary sources for vitamin B6 and there is no available information on the expression level of genes that play role in biosynthesis of vitamin B6 in garlic during storage period of garlic bulbs after harvest. In this study, we revealed the changes in expression level of PDX1 gene in garlic bulbs during three month-storage period at cold and ambient temperatures. We detected significant changes in gene expression level of PDX1 gene in bulbs stored at both temperatures.

2. BIOREMEDIATION KINETICS IN DIESEL OIL POLLUTED SOIL, AIMED TO GEOPHYSICAL MONITORING

Authors: ALBERTO GODIO , BARBARA RUFFIN , FRANCESCA BOSCO , ANDREA VERGNANO , CARLA MARIA RAFFA , FULVIA CHIAMPO

Abstract: In this work the kinetics of aerobic bioremediation of diesel oil polluted soil was evaluated comparing microcosms at different values of water content (u%) and carbon to nitrogen ratio (C/N). The percentage of degraded diesel oil is influenced by these two parameters due to their relevance for microbial metabolism. In addition, water content influences substrate A. Soil II. Experimental dispersion and the contact between microorganisms and pollutant. The experimental runs allowed to model the process kinetics by the first and the second order model. In general, the best removal efficiency is achieved with C/N = 120 and u% = 8%, with the half-life time in the order of 70 days. On this base, a geophysical model was tested to predict the dielectrical permittivity of a sandy soil partially saturated with water, gas and diesel oil. The result of the modelling activi

3. ADVANCED DIAGNOSIS OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE BY AUTOMATICALLY OBTAINING THE BEST CORONAL SLICES FOR MULTI-CLASSIFICATION RECOGNITION

Authors: ANTONIO CARRILLO , IGNACIO ROJAS , OLGA VALENZUELA

Abstract: The goal of this contribution is to find out a set of Y slices (coronal slices) from MRIs of patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and Normal images, that provides the maximum accuracy in a multiclass classification system. Images are preprocessed and 2D wavelet coefficients are extracted to form a feature matrix. Using a feature selection algorithm called mRMR, the best features from the matrix are extracted; then, the dimension of the feature vectors is reduced using PCA and finally, it is used to train an SVM to perform multi-class classification. In order to find the best combinations of coronal slices, a multi-objective genetic optimization methodology based on NSGA-II is used and a set of different solutions are extracted from the Pareto front. More relevant solutions are selected using more flexible criteria than that of the Pareto front, and examine what slices and accuracies are achieved. The multi-classification accuracies obtained by the pr

4. MULTI-OBJECTIVE GENETIC ALGORITHM TO FIND THE MOST RELEVANT SLIDES IN MRI FOR PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Authors: ALBERTO GARCíA , IGNACIO ROJAS , OLGA VALENZUELA

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to study the potential use of an intelligent/automatic classification system for Parkinson's Disease (PD), using magnetic resonance images (MRI). For feature extraction of MRI Discrete Wavelet Transform has been used, followed by minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance critrium (mRMR) for feature selection and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for feature reduction. We then applied Support Vector Machine (SVM) for classification and Genetic Algorithms (GA) for optimization. To discover which slices and regions of the MRI are the most relevant in the brain for identification of Parkinson's Disease region, optimization was carried out using a multi-objetive genetic algorithm. The slices obtained in this optimization process were consistent with those recommended by medical experts. The methodology presented outperformed most of the research available in the bibliography, achieving accuracies of 95% in classification of subjects. This suggests that the proposed work

5. DESIGNING THE STRUCTURE OF AN INDEX FOR THE ECOSYSTEM SERVICES QUALITY ANALYSIS

Authors: GIANI GRADINARU

Abstract: The quality of ecosystems becomes a challenge, increasingly emphasized for the scientific community, in the sense of identifying viable ways of rehabilitating and maintaining them for a sustainable ecological coherence. The paper aims to develop an index of the quality of ecosystem services based on the analysis of the following components: plant production, animal production, livestock farming and tourism. For the construction of such index, a series of econometric models useful for quantifying the quality of ecosystem services, regarding the dependence between agricultural production, the number of bee families, the amount of natural fertilizers used, the agricultural surface, on the hand and the dependence between the number of nights, number of tourists, number of pensions, on the other hand, are developed.

6. RATIONAL DESIGN OF QUORUM SENSING INHIBITORS USING DOCKING STRATEGIES

Authors: ALBERTO MARTÍNEZ , ALFREDO FUENTES-GUTIÉRREZ , ALICIA REYES-ARELLANO , JOSÉ CORREA-BASURTO

Abstract: The quorum sensing communication system is based on small molecules called autoinducers, which trigger pathogenic effects like biofilm formation. [1] This small molecule signaling construct provides the target for a pharmaceutical chemistry intervention. With the design and synthesis of antiquorum sensing small molecules, the bacteria communication can be blocked. [2] As a result, the pathogenic development is dismantled and additionally the access of antibiotics is promoted. In our group we were able to design and synthesis a pilot series of the heterocyclic compounds as quorum sensing inhibitors. In addition docking strategies were used to explore the binding free energies and binding pose of the heterocyclic compounds on CviR, LasR y MvfR, the receptor proteins in Chromobacterium violaceum, and LasR and MvfR in Pseudomonas aeruginosa respectively. To this docking study a set of heterocycles: imidazoline, thiazoline, quinoxalin-2-(1H)-onas, pyridines, benzimidazoles and thiazoles der

7. TECHNICAL INDICATORS OF ACTIVE COAL OBTAINED BY CHEMICAL ACTIVATION OF THE CARBON RESIDUE OF RICE HAZEL PYROLYSIS

Authors: AUNG HTUT THU , SAW WIN MYINT , V.N. KLUSHIN

Abstract: Rice crop is one of the most important food products in the Republic of Myanmar [1]. Conversion of the rice crop to marketable grain is associated with formation of rice husk wastes these beneficial use is negligible due to their huge mass. Along with this, literature data indicate the possibility of their processing into a number of marketable products, including, in particular, liquid glass, high-purity silicon dioxide, and activated carbons. The country needs for to solve the ensemble of environmental problems are very high, but the usage of those products is extremely limited by the high market value of these adsorbents and the lack of their own production.
